Past
In high school I followed computer science. In the course I learned basic coding skills for HTML, CSS and java. I also learned the basics on how to work with a database. In a group of four students, we created a clothing web shop for an imaginary company. We had to take the needs and wishes of the company into consideration. I worked mostly on the aesthetic part of the website. I really enjoyed this assignment, and it helped me realise that coding and creativity are things I might want to use in my career. I also learned that it is very important to take pictures and make backups of your work. Because the website is no longer online, and I am now unable to show my work.
In my last year of high school, I also did research on ecological roof construction together with a classmate (Marieke Mohns). In this research we looked at how the combination of sedum and solar panels affects the effectiveness of the solar panels. In this project I learned some basics on how to write a report and do research. I also learned how to prepare and do interviews, since we interviewed a company that was already working with sedum and solar panels.
In both these projects I have learned that communication within group work is of high importance. It is very useful to make a clear division of tasks and to frequently sit together with your group to update each other on the progress and see if anybody needs help.
